Summary:PURPOSE: To reduce the SOx concn. in the waste gas from flue gas desulfurization by extracting a slurry concentrated in dissolved sulfur dioxide by primary contact with a waste gas, separating solid and injecting the sulfur dioxide-contg. slurry into the obtained mother liquor, i.e., a solid-contg. slurry. CONSTITUTION: A liq. absorbent sprayed from a nozzle 36 is brought into contact with a waste gas having a relatively high content of sulfur dioxide to absorb and dissolve sulfur dioxide in a high concn., and a sulfur dioxide-contg. slurry is formed. The slurry is separated from gas in the space 26 of an inlet duct and allowed to flow down in a first liq. downcommer 62. The slurry is then extracted by a pump 66 and injected into a gypsum slurry extracted by a pump 46 or into a mother liquor discharged from a solid-liq. separator 48. The extracted absorbent is concentrated in sulfur dioxide ion and enhaced in an oxidation-reduction capacity with an oxidative substance, and hence the sulfur peroxide concn. in the gypsum slurry or mother liquor is lowered.
