Summary:PURPOSE: To produce a polybenzazole fiber excellent in spinnability and spinning stability. CONSTITUTION: A method for producing a polybenzazole fiber contains a process for allowing a dope containing polybenzazole and polyphosphoric acid to pass through the first filtration layer 2 and the second filtration layer 4. The first filtration layer contains metal or inorganic granules having an average granule diameter of approximately 0.3 to approximately 2.0mm and an average aspect ratio of approximately 1.0 to approximately 3.5, and the second filtration layer is composed of metal fibers having diameters of approximately 5 to approximately 20μm and does substantially not permit particles having diameters of >=15μm to pass therethrough. The yarn comprising fine single filaments having a single filament fineness of >=15μm can be spun at a rate of >=400m/min.
