Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a video server device, which has mass storage capacity and can supply plural video and sound data at the same time, at a low price. CONSTITUTION: The video and sound data are stored on an optical disk drive 6 which has a medium changing mechanism. The video and sound data read out of the optical disk drive 6 are temporarily buffered on an HD(hard disk) 5 and then supplied to a user terminal 9 through a memory 3 which operates as an output buffer. The video and sound data are compressed and stored, and their reproduction time at the user terminal 9 is longer than the time required to read them out. Their difference is utilized to read plural streams out. The data are written on the optical disk drive 6 and read out to the memory 3 concurrently, so plural intermediate HDs 5 are provided and accessed in parallel. Further, the processing is scheduled so that write units to the HDs 5 are made larger than read units, thereby improving the utilization efficiency of the device.
