Summary: | PURPOSE: To produce a base material for optical fiber which can reflect the light of a certain wavelength with high reflectance by making diffraction gratings inside the glass fiber. CONSTITUTION: A core rod 20 made of quartz glass containing germanium oxide 20 is prepared and fine particles 30 of the first quartz glass to which germanium oxide is added are deposited on the outer surface of this core rod, then the first quartz glass fin particles are sintered to form the first clad 31 having a diffraction index lower than that of the core rod 20. Further, fine particles 40 of the second quartz glass are deposited on the outer peripheral surface of the first clad, and finally the second quartz glass particles are sintered to give the second clad 41 whereby the objective base material of optical fiber is produced. |
