Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a cooling device of a steel strip in a continuous annealing line, by which the max. tension developed in the steel strip is reduced and, even in the case of the thin strip, the operation can be executed at a higher speed. CONSTITUTION: In the cooling device 10 of the steel strip 12 in the continuous annealing line which has a cooling vessel for continuously dipping the steel strip 12 successively to a continuous annealing furnace in its inner part, the cooling vessel is divided at least into two, and sink rolls 23, 24 respectively introducing the steel strips to the divided cooling vessels 14, 15 are arranged. Deflector roll 16 for carrying the steel strip 12 is arranged above the cooling liquid in the cooling vessels 14, 15 at the intermediate position of the sink rolls 23, 24.
