Summary:PURPOSE: To easily and safely obtain the subject high-purity compound useful as an electrophotographic photoreceptor at low cost in high yield at relatively low temperatures in a short time, by such a new process as to purify a crude charge transfer compound with activated carbon. CONSTITUTION: This compound is obtained by purifying a crude charge transfer compound [pref. an arylamine compound of formula I (Ar -Ar are each an aromatic hydrocarbon or an aromatic heterocycle) or hydrazone compound of formula II (Ar is the same as Ar ; R and R are each an alkyl, an aralkyl, etc.)] with activated carbon (pref. of crushed or granular form 10-200 mesh in size, having a pore diameter of 20-50 , specific surface area of 900-2000m /g, and pore volume of 0.5-1.5mL/g). Preferably, the crude compound is dissolved in 5-30wt.times of an organic solvent, and the resultant solution is mixed with the activated carbon of 0.5-3wt.times the crude compound followed by filtration, or the solution is passed through a filter or a column packed with the activated carbon, thus obtaining the objective purified charge transfer compound.
