Summary:PURPOSE: To provide an inflator for an air bag capable of realizing reduction of manufacturing cost and improvement of reliability by simplifying its structure. CONSTITUTION: This inflator is furnished with a high pressure container 2 having an opening 22a communicating with an air bag A and charging inert gas with high pressure inside to block the opening 22a by a blocking plate 4, a gas generating agent 36 to be ignited and generate high temperature gas, a case 31 charged with the gas generating agent 36, a gas injection nozzle 31a to face against the blocking plate 4 provided in the case 31 and to block the opening 22a of the high pressure container 2 and a shot body 5 to fit on the gas injection nozzle 31a free to shoot toward the blocking plate 4.
