Summary:PURPOSE: To position a head in an accurate position even in the case where the least significant bit of a cylinder is misread in the magnetic storage device having the head whose core width is extremely different for a write head and a read head from each other. CONSTITUTION: Feed width of writing a servo signal is made narrower than a track pitch. The device is provided with a medium 1, where cylinder information is written in conformity with the feed width of writing the servo signal and a driving control device 2 for reading servo information out of the medium 1 and positioning the head 3 in a prescribed position.
