Summary:PURPOSE: To eliminate a harmful effect due to faulty electrification and the adhesion of magnetic particles to a substance to be electrified by substantially preventing the magnetic particles from being separated from the magnetic brush attributed to a mechanical factor and from adhering to the substance to be electrified in a magnetic roller type magnetic brush electrifying device, and to eliminate trouble such as a faulty image due to the above-mentioned harmful effect in an image forming device. CONSTITUTION: The distribution of the absolute value of flux density in the radial direction of the magnetic roller 22 all over the periphery of the roller 22 has plural maximums. When it is assumed that the average of the maximal value in the distribution of the absolute value of the flux density in the radial direction exerted on the position (c) of the magnetic particles 23 restricted by the roller 22 at the farthest distance is B(T), the number of times that the maximal value of the roller 22 passes through a certain point on the circumference of the roller per hour is N/min, and the moving speed of the substance to be electrified 1 is Vps(cm/h); (-1.58×B+0.098)×10<(-> N</732)> /Vps<8.8×10<-7> holds.
