PURPOSE:To smoothen transfer of the car speed to the target speed by previously setting different control laws to be applied to control of the degree of opening of a throttle valve, selecting one of these control laws according to the car speed deviation, and performing control of the degree of opening of throttle valve in conformity to the selected control law. CONSTITUTION:When the target car speed V0 is set by turning on a main switch 1 and a set switch 2, a controller 3 selects the control law to be applied to current car speed control. That is, the deviation Vk of the car speed V given by a car speed sensor 4 from the target car speed V0 is calculated, and it is judged whether or not the absolute value of this deviation Vk is over the specified reference value <KP, and if YES, the P control (constant acceleration) shall be implemented. If NO, on the other hand, it shall be further judged whether or not the absolute value of the deviation Vk is below another specified reference value VKF, and if no, i.e., if the value lies between the two reference values, the PID control is implemented, while if YES, fuzzy control executed.
