Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new polymer capable of being processed into fibers, films, beads, etc., capable of being recycled, and capable of exhibiting the usefulness of kojic acid in the form of the polymer. CONSTITUTION: This polymer of formula I (R is H, a 1-20 C linear or branched alkyl, etc.; R is H, benzyl, etc.; R -R are each H, a 1-6C linear or branched alkyl group; M is phenyl, phenoxy, etc.; (n) is an integer). The polymer is preferably produced by subjecting two equivalents of kojic acid and a compound of formula II such as 4-vinyl benzaldehyde to an aldol condensation reaction, introducing substituents R , R to the two kojic acid molecule-condensed styrene derivative, and subsequently radically polymerizing the produced new compound of formula III. The compound of formula III includes 4-[bis(6-acetoxymethyl-3- acetoxy-4-pyron-2-yl)methyl]styrene.
