Summary:PURPOSE: To efficiently read an image of a high density to output in a short time by reading only the area needed to output excluding a set mark area, and image-processing and outputting it to a printer. CONSTITUTION: A scanner 18 has a cartridge insert hole 22 on the front surface upper part, and reads the image of a microfilm housed in the cartridge 22 inserted thereto at a low density. The read image is subjected to a prescribed image processing by a CPU in a computer body 10, and then displayed on a display device 12. When an unnecessary area (mask area) is then designated through a keyboard 14 while looking at the display of the display device 12, the scanner 18 reads the area other than the mask area at a high density. This image of a high density is outputted by a printer 20, and transferred to an external processing device.
