PURPOSE: To prevent a foreign body such as a coin from entering the device while securing ease of the insertion of a different-length medium by providing the opening and closing mechanism which is large enough to insert a hand at the insertion opening of the device. CONSTITUTION: An upper conveyance guide and a lower conveyance guide 3 are arranged opposite each other at a constant interval so as to convey a printing medium 10 to a printing means. A cut part is provided which is large enough to insert the hand to the overall width or partial width of the upper conveyance guide at the insertion opening. The size of the cut part is so determined that when the shortest medium is inserted, the hand can be entered until the medium is sets. Further, a movable plate 1 which is supported movably is supported at the cut part. The movable plate 1 normally covers the cut part to prevent a foreign body from entering the the device, and is moved selectively to a 1st position where the plate becomes part of the upper conveyance guide when a long medium is inserted and a 2nd position where the cut part is opened to insert the hand when a short medium is inserted.
