Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain the subject varnish imparting a specific metallic tone or a pearl tone decoration on the outer face of a metallic can by adding a specific ratio of pearl-based pigment to an overprint varnish for a can outer face. CONSTITUTION: The objective varnish is obtained by adding 1-30wt.% a pearl- based pigment to a solid component of an overprint varnish for a can outer face. The overprint varnish for a can outer face is an organic solvent type or an aqueous solution type comprising (A) a binder resin, (B) a curing agent, (C) a pearl-based pigment and (D) a solvent as principal components. The pearl- based pigment is usually composed of mica and titanium oxide. Each component of the overprint varnish for a can outer face except the pearl-based pigment is preferably 10-50wt.% the component (A), 10-50wt.% the component (B) and 30-70wt.% the component (D).
