Summary:PURPOSE: To prevent production of disturbance noise caused by an identification control signal in a video signal onto a conventional system television receiver by starting the processing from a video signal of a prescribed horizontal line in counted horizontal lines. CONSTITUTION: A synchronizing signal separator section 1 gives a signal Sh resulting from separating a horizontal synchronizing signal Sh and a vertical synchronizing signal Sv from a video signal Vi to a counter 2. The counter 2 counts number of horizontal lines based on the signal Sh and gives a digital count to a video signal processing section 3. In the 2nd generation high definition television system, a video signal, a reinforcement signal and an identification control signal are transmitted. The identification control signal is inserted to a horizontal line of 22H, 285H of a video signal start line of the existing system. The processing section 3 is designed to start processing from 23rd or 286th horizontal line. Thus, the horizontal lines 22nd and 285th with the identification control signal inserted to them are cut off and the signal is not in existence in an output Vo and then production of disturbance is prevented.
