Summary:PURPOSE: To predict the life of a cutting tool and contribute to the early exchange of an abnormal cutting tool by providing a resistance value change extracting means extracting change of a contact resistance value from the contact resistance values before and after the use of the cutting tool, comparing this change of resistance value with a deterioration reference pattern, and predicting the defect time of the tool. CONSTITUTION: Constant-current is let flow by a constant-current generating circuit 12, voltage between both contacts 4, 5 is measured by a terminal voltage measuring circuit 14, and this voltage is input to a computation judging circuit 11 through an A/D conversion circuit 15. This input is converted to a resistance value by a resistance value computing means, after judging by a range judging means of the computation judging circuit 11. Next, in the case of after n-th time cutting cycle in a resistance value change extracting means, the resistance value is stored as the resistance value of n-th time. In addition to this, the resistance value of n-th time is campared with one o (n-1)th time. and the change of the resistance value is extracted. A prediction detecting means discriminates whether the change quantity of the resistance value is in the allowable range or not, so as to predict the defect time of a bite tip.
