PURPOSE: To improve visibility by detecting the driver's own vehicle traveling position in the width direction on the road, calculating the distance from the driver's own vehicle traveling position to the center line on the road, and extending the irradiation range to the center line as the distance is larger. CONSTITUTION: In a headlight device for a vehicle, capable of adjusting the irradiation range before a vehicle, the distance from the driver's own vehicle traveling position to the center line on the road is calculated by a driver's own vehicle position detecting means 31 for detecting the driver's own vehicle traveling position in the width direction on the road. A control means 20 for adjusting the irradiation range of the headlights is so adjusted that the irradiation range may be extended to the center line side as the distance is larger. When the distance from the driver's own vehicle to the center line on the road is large, the light distributing range is extended to the center line side without applying glare to an oncoming vehicle, and visibility is improved.
