Summary:PURPOSE: To display record layout in a band-form image on a memory on a display screen by providing a definition information generating means to generate record definition information by using an inputted data item, and providing a display means to display the layout image of a record on the display screen on the basis of the definition information. CONSTITUTION: At the time of inputting the data item required for the design of layout by an input means 120, the item is designated directly to an arbitrary position on the record layout by an actual position designing means 122. A data base reference means 124 arranges automatically the item selected out of a data base on the record layout. The data base 180 is referred to by the data base reference means 124, and the definition information generating means 140 generates the definition information. The display means 160 displays a design picture on a display device, and a dividing and display means 162 displays the record layout on the display screen after dividing it. A plural record layouts display means 164 enables the design such as reference and transcription, etc., from other record layout information.
