Summary:PURPOSE: To provide an internal combustion engine ignition device which is constituted to improve ignitability of lean air-fuel mixture and increase engine efficiency through the increase of a combustion speed. CONSTITUTION: The frequency of an oscillating circuit 36 is adjusted to a frequency, at which resonance is caused to occur on the secondary side of a monovibrator M, by an automatic tuning circuit 41. A current is caused to flow to the primary side of the monovibrator M at the tuning frequency by an amplifier 38. By generating resonance on the secondary side, a high potential is generated and single pole discharge is caused to occur to the central electrode 12 of a single discharge electrode plug 10 connected to the secondary side. Plasma discharge from the single pole discharge plug 10 excites and ionizes air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber and brings the air-fuel mixture into a state to be extremely apt to effect combustion.
