Summary:PURPOSE: To protect a magnetic tape against damage at the time of loading/ unloading a tape by eliminating a shape vertical to the axis of rotation from the lead part of a fixed drum. CONSTITUTION: A rotary drum 1 is set on the axis of rotation 7a making an inclination angle α against the horizontal plane 8a of chassis 8 and provided with a magnetic head 6. A fixed drum 4 comprises a lead part 3 for regulating the traveling position of a magnetic tape 5 in the breadthwise direction, and a tape traveling plane 2. The lead part 3 is formed such that the distance from the horizontal plane 8a of chassis 8 decreases gradually with respect to the ridge of the cross-section thereof as the vertical distance from the axis 7a increases with respect to the ridge of the cross-section thereof. The angle 9 defined by the ridge of the cross-section of the lead part 3 and a normal to the axis of rotation 7a is set larger than the inclination angle α of the rotary magnetic head. With such structure, contact between the lead part and the magnetic tape can be eliminated at the time of loading/unloading the tape and thereby the tape edge can be protected against damage.
