Summary:PURPOSE: To improve the read rate and reduce the misread rate of the method and device for bar code reading which are applied to a POS system, etc., when one bar code is divided into plural parts and demodulated. CONSTITUTION: A reference frequency varying means 15 varies the setting of the reference frequency of a coincidence frequency deciding means 13 according to read state information on a bar code 1 from a read state information acquiring means 14 and the coincidence frequency deciding means 13 detects the frequency of coincidence showing the successive demodulation of the same data from the bar code 1; if the frequency of coincidence reaches the reference frequency, data demodulated from the bar code 1 are regarded as effective data and the read of the bar code 1 is completed.
