Summary:PURPOSE:To establish a charging method for a lead acid battery which is free from risk of over-charging, can eliminate even insufficient charging, and presents an improved lifetime characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A number of cells are connected in series to form a package battery, wherein the cells are separated into a plurality of groups. At normal times, a charging voltage within a value consisting of the total voltage of the package battery in an open circuitry to which 60mV/cell is added, is impressed to make float charging, and also the voltage per cell of each group is measured, and the charging voltage is heightened for a certain time when the voltage value per cell of a certain group has sunk by 20mV or more by reference to the voltage per cell of the whole package battery. This permits preventing over-charging or insufficient charging.
