Summary:PURPOSE: To perform correction of thermal displacement with high precision by a method wherein the temperature change of a machine body is detected, and a temperature change having approximately the same time constant as that of thermal displacement of a machine tool is computed. CONSTITUTION: Output signals from temperature sensors S1 and S2 are inputted to the A/D converter 13 of a thermal displacement correction device 12 through circuits 36 and 37 and inputted analogue signals are converted thereat into respective digitals signals. The digital signal from the A/D converter 13 is inputted to a computing memory part 14, wherein thermal displacement is computed. Based on the computed thermal displacement, a machining error is corrected by a correction means 33. An output signal from the correction means 33 is transmitted to a numerical control device 16 through a programmable controller 15 and feedback of it to a servo system is effected to correct a position.
