Summary:PURPOSE: To provide an escalator traffic flow sensing device which can accurately grasp the total traffic flow of escalator passengers. CONSTITUTION: The get-off place of an escalator 1 is furnished with sensors 5a, 5b to sense passenger(s) who passes a region near the get-off place, while the get-on place of another escalator 2 is provided with sensors 6a, 6b to sense passenger(s) who passes a region near the get-on place, and further a sensor 7 is installed to sense any person who goes in the middle region between the two mentioned places. Thereby three sorts of passengers are distinguished from one another, i.e., those who have traveled can the escalator from the lower floor and got off at the applicable floor, those who have got on the same floor, and those who are traveling continuously.
