Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a detergent composition containing a specific biodegradable nonionic surfactant mild for environments and a specific amide compound, excellent in the washing power, the sustaining power of bubbles and the mild touch for skins, and capable of being used as a kitchen detergent, its base material, etc. CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises (A) a nonionic surfactant produced by randomly addition-reacting ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in amounts of 5-15 moles and 0.3-5.0 moles, respectively, on the average to alcohols containing >=50wt.% of a 8-18C linear higher alcohol, and (B) an amide compound of the formula (R1 is 9-17C alkyl or alkenyl; m+n is 2-10). Therein, for example, the average addition molar numbers of the ethylene oxide and the propylene oxide in the component A are 5-10 and 0.3-3, respectively, and the component A is compounded in an amount of >=50wt.% based on the total amount of the components A and B.
