Summary:PURPOSE:To provide an optical fiber coupler having good characteristics by using carbon coated optical fibers which have excellent hydrogen resistance and static fatigue characteristics and are usable by bending small and a process for producing such coupler. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the carbon coated optical fibers 1 are stretched and fused to each other in parts 8 where the carbon coatings are removed, by which an optical coupling part 9 is formed. The small-sized carbon coated optical fiber coupler which does not have the carbon remaining in the fusion stretched part, has nothing to hinder coupling of light in the coupling part, has the good characteristics and the excellent hydrogen resistance and static fatigue characteristics and is usable by bending small is obtd.
