Summary: | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound of high optical purity useful as a synthetic intermediate for various medicinal compounds such as diltiazem hydrochloride that is a coronary vasodilator by reacting a trans-3-phenylglycidic acid ester-based compound with a specific organism-related substance. CONSTITUTION: A trans-3-phenylglycidic acid ester-based compound of the formula [R is a lower alkyl; R is a halogen, a lower alkyl, etc.; (n) is an integer of 1-5] is reacted with a culture solution (treated substance) or a microbial cell (treated part) of a microorganism belonging to the genus Arthrobacter capable of selectively and asymmetrically hydrolyzing ester bonds in an optically active substance in which the steric configuration thereof is (2S, 3R). Arthrobacter globiformis, etc., can be exemplified as the microorganism of the genus Arthrobacter. |
