Summary:PURPOSE: To enhance the cooling effect and to suppress vibration of a container in a scanning optical device which generates a laser beam for scanning the surface of a photodetector drum by reflecting a laser beam modulated in light intensity by image data with a rotating polygon mirror. CONSTITUTION: A part 3 of the wall of a container for housing and fixing the polygon mirror 5 is made into a double structure and a cooling liquid 14 is filled in this wall. This cooling liquid is circulated between the inside of wall and an external radiator not shown in the Fig. to perform cooling. Since the cooling is not executed by air blowing sticking of the toners and dust and scattered and suspending in the air by blowing does not arise and an imaging lens 4 mounted at the container is no longer contaminated. Since the vibration of the inside wall 3-1 is absorbed when fins 12 having a weights 13 at its front ends are mounted on the inside wall 3-1, the vibration of the container 1 occurring in the rotation, etc., of the polygon mirror 5 is suppressed.
