Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a granular blocked isocyanate composite which is easily dispersible in water by using a nonaq. dispersion polymn. process using a special dispersion stabilizer and by compositing a polyisocyanate using a specific vinyl monomer. CONSTITUTION: A polyisocyanate in an amount of 100 pts.wt., a blocking agent, a dispersion stabilizer, 1-40 pts.wt. carboxylated vinyl monomer, and 50-300 pts.wt. vinyl monomer are dispersed and reacted in an org. solvent. The dispersion stabilizer used is a compd. obtd. by reacting 100 pts.wt. unsatd. polyol with 20-400 pts.wt. ethylenically unsatd. monomer which forms side chains each having a 2C or higher hydrocarbon group. Carboxyl groups of the resultant granular blocked isocyanate composite are neutralized with up to an equivalent amt. of a basic compd., giving a water-dispersible granular blocked isocyanate composite.
