Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium by mixing sludge or lumpy matter containing hexavalent chromium with org. sludge to subject the same to incineration treatment by a rotary kiln. CONSTITUTION:At first, lumpy matter 5t obtained by solidifying dust containing hexavalent chromium by cement is uniformly mixed with a mixture 5t of waste plastics, stand sludge, sawdust or the like and the resulting mixture is fed in a rotary kiln controlled to 700 deg.C and subjected to continuous operation to be stagnated for 20min to reduce hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium. Cinders are allowed to fall in water at the outlet part of the rotary kiln to be cooled.
