Summary:PURPOSE:To discriminate the colors of bottles of any sizes with good accuracy with a small-sized color image pickup camera. CONSTITUTION:This sorter is provided a light emitting element 6 and light receiving element 7 facing each other across a belt 5 on the upstream side end of a belt conveyor 2 and is provided with the color image pickup camera 9 on the downstream side thereof. In addition, a pulse encoder E is mounted at a driven roller 4 of this belt conveyor 2 and the pulse outputs thereof are supplied to a computer 10. The light reception signal of the light receiving element 7 and the image pickup signal of the color image pickup camera 9 are supplied thereto. The computer 9 detects the length of the bottles to be sorted by colors by the number of pulses of the pulse encoder E and the light reception signal of the light receiving element 7 and commands the number of shutter times to the image pickup camera 9 according thereto.
