Summary: | PURPOSE: To obtain a semiconductor memory such as dynamic RAM which achieves a higher convenience while suppressing the rise in costs thereof. CONSTITUTION: A dynamic RAM or the like which is made in a × 1 bit configuration or in a × 4 bit configuration while having a 4 bit nibble mode is provided with a serial counter containing a column address buffer CADB as a part thereof to specify a series of column addresses in a serial mode with the ×4 bit configuration. In the serial mode with the × 1 bit configuration, four memory cells are selected simultaneously and data read out of the four memory cells selected simultaneously are selected alternatively in sequence with a nibble counter NCTR for a nibble mode while the serial counter SCTR is updated by a carry signal of the nibble counter NCTR. |
