Summary:PURPOSE:To insert a thrust metal in a specified position on a cylinder block accurately and effectively. CONSTITUTION:A thrust metal installing device is equipped with metal supply magazines 17, 18 to accommodate a large number of thrust metals, a metal handover unit 20 to receive thrust metal from these magazines 17, 18, and metal installing units 21, 22 with which the thrust metal received from the unit 20 is inserted into a metal installing groove provided in a cylinder block. The unit 20 has a metal supporting seat on which the thrust metal is placed. The metal installing units 21, 22 are furnished with a metal accommodating recess to accommodate the thrust metal, a metal holding member to prevent metal from slipping off, a crank moving means to move a crank shaft in the direction of spreading the gap between the cylinder block on the thrust metal insert side and the crank shaft, and a metal intruding member which is moved by an actuator along a locus in the form of a circular arc.
