Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a machine and to increase a retrieval heat rate in order to expedite the map retrieval around a destination. CONSTITUTION:This method is composed of input mode decision processing 302 capable of making retrieval operation without being conscious of the kinds of input information, erroneous reading correction processing 303 capable of making retrieval operation without being conscious of errors in reading, retrieval processing 304 which displays a candidate address in a character information display area and displays the map and associated information after selection by an operator in the case of the plural candidate addresses and data updating processing 305 for maintaining the latest data always meeting a current situation. The user is able to make input operation of the address, name and telephone number in the map retrieval without switching a screen and without being conscious of the kinds of the information. Further, the inputting by omission is possible and, therefore, the key operations are decreased.
