PURPOSE:To detect the fault of an acceleration detection apparatus without installing a mechanism component exclusively used for a diagnosis. CONSTITUTION:The acceleration detection apparatus is provided with an acceleration detection means 1 which has a resonance point near the resonant frequency of an object to be detected and which detects an acceleration applied to the object to the detected, with a resonant-frequency-band extraction means 4 which extracts a signal in a frequency band including the resonant frequency of the object to be detected from an acceleration signal detected by the acceleration detection means 1, with a diagnostic-signal output means 7 which recognizes that an impact has been applied to the object to be detected and which outputs a diagnostic signal and with a comparison means 5 which compares the level of a signal S2 extracted by the resonant-frequency-band extraction means 4 on receiving the diagnostic signal with a preset reference value V0 and which outputs a fault signal F when the level of the signal S2 in the resonant-frequency band is lower than the reference value V0.
