Summary:PURPOSE:To speedily activate a main catalytic converter by performing temperature rise promoting control according to an activated condition of a sub-catalytic converter. CONSTITUTION:A main catalytic converter 18 is arranged on the way of an exhaust passage 15, while a sub-catalytic converter 22 is installed on the way of a bypass passage 21. An activated condition of the sub-catalytic converter 22 is obtained by a detected temperature of a sub-catalyst outlet temperature sensor 24 and a detected temperature of a sub-catalyst inlet temperature sensor 25. According to the activated condition of the sub-catalytic converter 22, a secondary air amount of an air supply mechanism 27 and an ignition timing by an ignition device 31 are corrected. The temperature of the main catalytic converter 18 is increased for activation.
