PURPOSE:To make programming operation efficient by operating the lengths of necessary longitudinal lines or lateral lines and adding them when it is judged that an OR circuit is generated from information generated by managing a screen in editing operation with a specific matrix. CONSTITUTION:A memory 3 is stored with screen information which is being edited with a matrix based upon elements in minimum units constituting a program. When programming operation is performed by using a screen where a ladder figure is displayed, respective data on device classifications which are X and Y coordinates, contacts, coils, lines, and arithmetic instructions of elements constituting the program are held in peripheral equipment 1 which is used while connected to the programmable controller. In this state, a control part 4 decides the coils or arithmetic instructions from inputted keys to judge whether or not the OR circuit is generated and operates the lengths of the longitudinal lines or lateral lines required to generated the OR circuit when judging that the OR circuit is generated, thereby adding them.
