Summary:PURPOSE:To simplify the input operation of Japanese words by providing a character pattern converting part which converts the input characters excluding HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) into a specific pattern and therefore omitting a complicated key operation which changes again the punctuation of paragraphs. CONSTITUTION:An input part 1 inputs the character strings and a character string pattern converting part 2 converts the input characters excluding HIRAGANA into a specific pattern. A memory part 3 stores the input character strings. Then a Japanese word processing part 6 converts the input characters into the paragraph units with use of an independent word dictionary 4 and a paragraph punctuation learning dictionary 5 and changes the paragraph punctuation as necessary. In case the specific pattern converted by the part 2 is included in the input characters, the information is registered into the dictionary 5 with said specific pattern defined as the reading. At the same time, a converting operation is carried out based on the learning information. Thus it is possible to produce the correct sentences without performing such a complicated key operation that changes again the paragraph punctuation.
