Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the reader surely turning over originals one by one and reading surely the original. CONSTITUTION:The reader is provided with an original platen 1 on which an original 2 is placed in a state of a book while an original face 2a is directed upward, an image scanner 3 arranged to read an original above the original placing platen 1 and having a focus depth adjustment device and a vertical movement arm 5 moving relatively the original platen and the image scanner to be parted and coupled. An absorption pad 9 is provided to a tip of an air tube 8, a page turn-over device 7 adsorbing the upper side of the original when the original 2 on the original platen and the image scanner 3 are parted, to be turned in the page turn-over direction and an overlapped turn-over prevention device 10 in contact with the lower side of the original when the page turnover device 7 adsorbs at least one original and is at a predetermined turning position and adsorbing excess originals to be turned in a page back direction are provided.
