PURPOSE:To easily and surely house and fix a waveguide type optical element into a housing by joining whole surface of the contact surface between the optical element and the inside surface of the housing through a conductive joining material layer in at least one surface of the optical element in contact with the inside surface of the housing. CONSTITUTION:An optical element chip 2 is arranged so as to be in contact with the housing inner bottom surface 9 and the housing inner wall side surface 10 of the housing 3. The optical element chip 2 is provided with an optical waveguide 11 formed on an electrooptical crystal substrate, an electrode for controlling a light wave propagating through the optical waveguide 11 by external electric field, that is, an electrode pattern 12 and an electrode lead 13 and an inductive material layer for separating the optical waveguide 11 from the electrode pattern 12. On the whole surface of the contact surface between the bottom surface of the optical element chip 2 and the housing inner bottom surface 9, the conductive joining material layer 14 is formed, and both surfaces in contact with each other are joined rigidly. By such a manner, the mounting process of the chip 2 is simplified, and is dealt with mass production, too.
