Summary:PURPOSE:To enable driving force to be uniformly transmitted to a pair of engine valves as well as to secure stiffness of all rocker arms in their connecting state in a valve system of an internal combustion engine, capable of changing the operational properties of a pair of engines into a great number of stages according to the driving state of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A first free rocker arm 36 to be brought in slidable contact with a high-speed cam 32, a pair of driving rocker arms 37 to be interlocked/ connected with/to both machine valves, and brought in slidable contact with low-speed cams 34 and a pair of second free rocker arms 38 to be brought in slidable contact with an intermediate-speed cam 33 while pinching both driving rocker arms 37 between the second rocker arms and the first free rocker arms 36 are so arranged as to be adjacent to one another. And in the high-speed driving range of an engine, the first free rocker arm 36 and both driving rocker arms 37 are connected to each other by a first connection switching means 39, and the driving rocker arms 37 and the second free rocker arms 38 are connected to each other by second connection switching means 40 for energizing the driving rocker arms 37 to the first free rocker arm 36.
