Summary: | PURPOSE:To refine wool grease or lanolin by passing a solution of the grease or lanolin in a nonpolar organic solvent through a tower packed with an adsorbent, while improving the efficiency of refinement by prolonging the life of the tower by specifying the judgment of the time when the absorber in the tower is regenerated. CONSTITUTION:The separation and refinement process is one comprising passing a solution of wool grease or lanolin (herein after referred to as feedstock) in a nonpolar organic solvent to an adsorption tower, allowing the adsorbent to adsorb the polar compounds in the feedstock and recovering the adsorptively refined nonpolar lanolin from the passed liquid, eluting the adsorbed compounds from the adsorbent by passing a polar organic solvent and recovering the eluate, wherein in performing said elution and recovery, the adsorbent is repeatedly used after it is treated by passing a polar organic solvent till the amount of the adsorbed polar compounds is decreased to 3wt.% or less. The method of decreasing the amount of the polar compounds in the adsorbent to 3wt.% or less consists of for example bringing the adsorbent into contact with the solvent at a temperature of 35 deg.C to below the boiling point of the solvent. |
