PURPOSE:To provide an image processor which can prevent the deterioration of quality of the image processing result that is caused by that a shift register is divided into two systems for output of the variable density information received from an image sensor. CONSTITUTION:An image processor consists of an image sensor 5 which applies the photoelectric conversion to the gray level images of characters, graphics, photos, etc., an even number picture element string variable density information output means 6 which reads the variable density information out of an even number picture element string of the sensor 5, an odd number picture string variable density information output means 7 which reads the variable density information out of an odd number picture element string of the sensor 5, a 1st A/D converter 10 which converts the variable density information given from the means 6 into the digital signals, a 2nd A/D converter 11 which converts the variable density information given from the means 7 into the digital signals, an image processing mask 3 which stores the variable density information received from both converters 10 and 11, and an output control means 1 which selectively outputs the variable density information on an even or odd number picture element train received from the mask 3.
