Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a novel antibiotic exhibiting a strong antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, especially acid-fast bacteria, and useful as an antibiotic for medical cares. CONSTITUTION:An antibiotic, azicemycin B, represented by the formula or its salt. The compound is obtained by culturing an antibiotic azicemycin B- producing bacterium belonging to the genus Amycolatopsis, preferably Amycolatopsis S.P.-MJ126-NF4 strain (FERM-P-13362), in a nutritive medium and subsequently collecting the produced and accumulated antibiotic from the culture product.
