Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium having a proper complex index of refraction in a prescribed wavelength region of laser light by forming a light absorbing layer based on compds. each having a prescribed compsn. on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A light absorbing layer based on a metallophthalocyanine compd. represented by formula I and a nitrogen-contg. compd. selected from among optionally substd. or cyclized amino, imino and azo compds. represented by formula II is formed on a substrate. In the formula II, R is 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy and each of R -R is 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen or H. The molecular association of the phthalocyanine compd. is inhibited and the objective optical recording medium having a proper complex index of refraction in the region of 760-800nm as the wavelength region of laser light is obtd.
