Summary:PURPOSE:To detect a stained pane of front glass, the condition of rain drop adhesion in particular, and automatically make switch-over for the driving speed of a wiper in such a way as to meet an optimum speed depending on the degree of stains. CONSTITUTION:The device is equipped with a light emitting element 40 irradiating the light to a pane of front glass 12, and with a light receiving element 50 detecting the irradiated light via the pane of front glass, and a wiper 20 is so constituted as to be driven in response to the detected output of the light receiving element.
