PURPOSE:To easily select a set position according to the type of a medium by providing a guide member for selecting to dispose the one side of the medium along a reference guide or taking an interval therebetween according to the type of the medium to be handled. CONSTITUTION:A medium 1 is set to a medium set switching guide member 3 provided on an insertion unit 2, conveyed to the position of a platen 6 on a conveying passage 5, and printed with predetermined information by a printing head 7. After printing, it is reversely conveyed on the passage 5 by conveying rollers 4a, 4b and driven rollers 4d, 4c, and discharged to the unit 2. In this case, the conveying position of the medium 1 is detected by sensors 8, 9 installed on the passage 5, and so controlled as to be conveyed to a predetermined position. In the case of conveying, the medium 1 is conveyed while being pressed toward a conveying reference guide 10. The head 7 is moved to the predetermined position according to the information of the sensor. Printing on the medium at its printing position is accurately performed.
