Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a coating composition which can show the flip-flop effect resulting from a change in a reddish hue and can therefore improved in the variety in the design of color without detriment to the metallic feeling by using specified fine titanium dioxide particles and a flaky metallic pigment. CONSTITUTION:10-50wt.% thermoplastic or thermosetting resin is mixed with fine titanium dioxide particles having a single particle diameter distribution, in which the means single particle diameter is 0.05-0.13mum, and the content of particles with particle diameter of 0.05-0.1mum is 80% or above and optionally surface-coated with a hydrated oxide or oxide of at least one element selected from Al, Si, Ti, Zr and Sn and a flaky metallic pigment in amounts to give a weight ratio of 1:(0.1-10) to obtain a coating composition showing the flip-flop effect resulting from such a change in a reddish hue that the maximum value of the value (a) color difference between the face color (the color of regularly reflected light) and the flop color (the color of scattered light) is at least 5.
