Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain high-quality glass carbon having excellent uniform and dense structure in good yield by dropping a thermosetting resin liquid as a thin film stream on a slant face in a vacuum vessel before forming and previously defoaming the resin liquid. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting resin liquid consisting of a phenolic resin or furan-based resin having >=40wt.% of residual carbon ratio or initial condensation product of their mixture is packed in a raw material feed tank 1 and the pressure in a vacuum vessel 8 is reduced to 2-3Torr through a vacuum pump connected to a reducing pipe 9 and an opening and closing valve 4 is opened and the thermosetting resin liquid of a raw material is dropped as a thin film stream having 100g/min flow rate on the face of slant plate 2 heated to 70 deg.C and subjected to defoaming treatment while controlling a heating means 6. Then, this raw resin material is stored in a storage tank 3 cooled to 3 deg.C and cast onto a pad and retained for 24hr to afford a plate-like resin molding. The molding is subjected to curing treatment at 150 deg.C and then, subjected to a baking carbonization treatment in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at >=800 deg.C and as necessary, subjected to a graphitization treatment at >=2000 deg.C. |
