Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive light weight carriage unit for optical head which can deal with a high speed operation. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 9A for carrying an optical head is supported movably in the radial direction of an optical disc by means of two rails 13 through a plurality of bearings 12, 20. In this carriage unit for optical head, the bearing is provided with at least one or more sliding bearings 20 and at least one of the plurality of bearings is supported by a resilient member 22 for the purpose of pre-loading.
